Analysis of U.S. Opioid Overdoses from 1999-2021
This artifact reflects my ability to conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analysis to understand a major public health issue. Using CDC data from 1999 to 2021, I examined overdose deaths by state and county, created charts that identified outliers and trends, conducted hypothesis testing on death rate changes, and explored correlations between states and time periods. The visual trends shown in Charts 2, 4, 5, and 6 reveal the magnitude and acceleration of overdose deaths across the country, especially from 2018 to 2021.
This project strengthened my ability to translate raw data into meaningful insights that can guide policy conversations. It also reinforced how analytical evidence can clarify public needs and inform advocacy efforts in my work with substance use disorder programs.
